An Evening with Olympian Jazz Carlin

King Edward's Witley was delighted to welcome Double Olympic Silver Medallist Jazz Carlin the School. Jazz gave an inspirational presentation to prep and primary school parents about the importance of mental wellbeing.

Aims

Background

King Edward's Witley is a member of The Bridewell Foundation and in September 2021 we launched our series of Bridewell Talks.

Swimmer Jazz Carlin, double Olympic silver medallist and double European and Commonwealth Champion was the first guest speaker in our 2021-22 schedule of three.

The objective is to invite speakers to give an inspirational talk to parents and staff from local Prep and primary schools. The Bridewell Talks take place at King Edward's twice a year and once at Barrow Hills School.

Resources

Teachers from King Edward's and Barrow Hills Sports Departments organised the appropriate pupils. The presentations were held in the lecture theatre and the School newly refurbished swimming pool. In the evening, guests enjoyed light refreshments in our Selborne Room prior to Jazz giving her talk.

Pupil Involvement

During the day, Jazz gave a lecture to some of the 3rd and 4th Form girls. This was followed by a presentation to our ‘Elite Performance Pathway‘ pupils which is a unique programme designed to extend and stretch our most able pupils.

Concluding her time with our pupils, Jazz ran a swimming masterclass in our pool for our swim squad who were joined by twelve girls and boys from our Partner school Barrow Hills School.

Frequency

Jazz Carlin was the first of our three annual Bridewell Talks. Scheduled to occur once a term.
