An Evening with...
We offer a series of "Evenings with..." female role models as part of our community engagement. We invite pupils from local schools to these events.
Previous visitors have been a Classicist and Professor.
Aims
The aim is to showcase high profile, female role models in careers which fit into our culture of character, endeavour and achievement.
To open the school and its facilities up for the local community as a space suitable for such events.
Success will be based on the turnout to the events and whether we are able to break even.
Background
The suggestions for the speakers invited to take part have been made by our academic staff who make the initial approach.
Resources
The events are hosted in school and tickets are sold through the Senior School office and Eventbrite.
Hosting on the night is by school staff and we open our dining room for refreshments, book sales and book signing.
We link with local book sellers to enable us to offer the speakers books for sale and promotion.
The cost of the tickets depends on the fee being charged by the speaker and we offer discounted tickets for students to encourage that academic curiosity.
Impact
Feedback from previous events is always extremely positive from both the visitors and the speakers.
Pupil Involvement
We recommend the talks as being suitable for Year 9 and above (depending on the speaker) - boys and girls are welcome to attend.
Invitations are issued to all local schools, colleges and the local community.
Frequency
We have held one speaker per year but in our 140th year, we are hoping to attract between 3 and 5 speakers.
