A Place to Call Home Art Project
Putney High is leading a cluster of schools in Roehampton as part of a Wandsworth-wide drive to bring together Independent and State Schools for shared projects and collaboration.
Our first project will bring Junior and Senior students from across Wandsworth together to create a collective artwork, to express, communicate and share their experience of the past year, and to consider what community means to them.
Over 50 schools have taken part. Our students were involved in making the artwork itself, as well as supporting our partner schools with the project and creating music to go alongside the finished display.
Aims
- To create a collaborative art work to celebrate the creativity of the students of Wandsworth and to celebrate the beginning of the Wandsworth Schools Partnership Programme.
- Teacher CPS was delivered for Primary Art Teachers and parents were actively involved in the exhibition and gallery visits.
Background
During the Covid-19 pandemic Wandsworth Council reached out to schools across the sectors in the borough to encourage the development of new collaborative working for children in the borough.
Putney High School took the lead for the Putney/Roehampton cluster of schools 23 state junior schools; 4 state senior schools; 5 special schools; 8 independent junior and prep schools.
Resources

Impact
Speaking about the opportunity, Mrs Longstaff has said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our young people in Wandsworth to work together and take increased ownership of their community role. The project very much reflects Putney High School’s “It Starts with Me” ethos and expands this to "It Starts with Us".
Pupil Involvement
- 2000 students at over 50 schools took part in the project, leading to an exhibition at Southside shopping centre in March 2022.
- Year 7 & 12 art students from Putney High School delivered the project in Oasis Primary School.
- Year 5 pupils form Putney High School contributed a panel to the art work and completed a gallery visit.
- Year 8 students composed a soundscape to accompany the art work in music lessons and a recording was made to play in the venue.
Frequency
A single event to act as a catalyst for future collaboration.
